Viola “Jo” Pierel 95, of Greene St., died Thursday, March 1, 2018. She was the wife of the late Marcel P. Pierel. Born in Woonsocket, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Clara (Bourget) Lemieux. Viola worked as a stitcher for Narragansett Knitting Co. for many years. She was a Eucharistic Minister at Holy Family Church, and a longtime volunteer for the Adult CYO Program. Viola enjoyed traveling and loved going to the beach. She was an avid Boston Red Sox, Bruins, and New England Patriots fan.
She is survived by seven children, Marc Pierel and his wife Carolyn of Weatherford, TX , Michelle Deslauriers of Woonsocket, RI, Monique Pierel of Keene, NH, Marcel Pierel and his wife Monica Salinas of El Paso, TX, Marie Pierel of Whitensville, MA, Marguerite Pierel and her husband Emile Thibeault of Woonsocket, RI, and Maurice Pierel and his wife Michelle of Courbevoie, France, seventeen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and her dear friend Celine Carpentier. She was predeceased by a son-in-law Robert Deslauriers, and siblings, Leo, George, William and Raymond Lemieux, Clara Poirier, Blanche Desjarlais, Cora Gravel, Bertha Lemieux and Doris Rabideau.
Her funeral will be held Friday at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St., Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Holy Family Church, South Main St. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery in Woonsocket. Visiting hours are Thursday 4-8 PM. Donations may be made to Hope Hospice and Palliative Care of RI, 1085 North Main St. Providence, RI 02904-9826 in her memory.
