Roland A. Roy 90, formerly of Village Way in North Smithfield, passed away at the Friendly Home on October 20, 2023, with his family by his side. He was the loving husband for sixty-eight years of Constance (Grenon) Roy. Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Silvio and Elida (Roberts) Roy. Roland served in the US Navy during the Korean War. He was the sales manager for the former Leo’s Pastry for seventeen years. He then worked for Sears and Robucks in Woonsocket in the painting department for eight years and Pinault Hardware for seventeen years before retiring. After his retirement Roland worked part time for the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home for many years. Roland was active with the CYO at St. Ann’s Parish and St. John’s Parish where he coached the girls’ softball team for several years. He was a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, a member of the former Club Marquette, St. Joseph’s Sr. Citizens, and St. Agatha’s Sr. Citizens. Roland enjoyed playing cards and was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan.
Besides his wife he leaves four children, Vivian Silva and her husband Daniel of Smithfield, Jacqueline Gregoire and her husband Marc of Blackstone, Ronald Roy and his wife Catherine of Naples, FL, and Charlene Whitman and her husband Steve of Plymouth, NH, thirteen grandchildren, Eric Dussault, Brenna Mirabile, Kristin Verasammy, Brittany Silva, Nicolas Gregoire. Steven Gregoire. Elise Pilling, Kristin Hubbs, Jessica Palardy-Udsen, Kendall Roy, Collin Roy, Ethan Whitman, and Hayden Whitman, and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Nancy Palardy, and brother of the late Normand Roy.
His funeral will be held Friday, October 27, 2023, at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church, Park Ave. Woonsocket. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 4-6 PM. While flowers are welcome, donations to the American Diabetes or Heart Association would be greatly appreciated.
