Roger A. Marquis 88, of Woonsocket, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2024, at home. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Alphonse and Delina (Ledoux) Marquis. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of sixty-eight years, Clara (Jolicoeur) Marquis who passed on December 6, 2023. Roger was the co-owner of Marquis Oil Company along with his wife, Clara, for twenty years. They retired at an early age and enjoyed traveling around the world. They especially loved taking cruises. Roger enjoyed spending the winter in Florida with Clara. They loved to just be together as they are now.
Roger served in the US Navy for four years in the submarine division. He was an engineman on the USS BLENNY. Roger was part of a test group for seventeen years on Electric Boat in Groton, CT. His group would take submarines out on their first dive under the watchful eye of Admiral Hyman Rickover. Roger is a member of the US Submarine Vets Inc. (USSVI) organization.
He is survived by his daughter Joyce A. Marquis of Woonsocket, granddaughters Ashley Tillet and Taylor Combs both of NC and six great-grandchildren, his brother-in-law Normand Jolicoeur of Pascoag, and extended family member David Chartier. Roger was predeceased by his son David Marquis, granddaughter Jammie Marquis and sisters Rita Fontaine and Doris Rouette.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St., Woonsocket beginning at 4:00 PM concluding with a service at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers donations to Harmony Hospice, 931 Jefferson Blvd. Suite 3004, Warwick, RI 02886 in his memory would be appreciated. The family would like to thank Lisa, Kris, and Keri for the love and exceptional care they gave to Roger.
