Robert J. Vilt, 89, of School St., died on June 16, 2021 at Hope Hospice and Palliative Care in Providence. He was the husband of Marcienne E. (Frappier) Vilt. Born in Coal City, Il, he was a son of the late Anton and Mary Beatrice (Zajicek) Vilt. Robert was a veteran who served in the US Navy between 1951-1954. He was the owner and operator of Fontana’s Flowers and Greenhouses from 1959-1998. His passion for gardening and his greenhouses kept him working for many more years. He was a competent athlete and enjoyed many sports including golf, skiing, hockey and basketball which he coached for the CYO. He also enjoyed hunting. Bob had a black walnut tree growing in his back yard of which he was very proud and insisted on sharing the bounty of crop with his children and grandchildren.
Besides his wife he leaves a daughter Rosanne Hayden of Franklin, two sons, Gregory Vilt of Bellingham, and Anthony (Tony) Vilt of Slatersville, a sister Dorris Mae Clark of Eau Claire, WI, twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by two daughters, Michelle Chevrette and Elise Goulet, and five siblings, Elizabeth “Betty” Livsey, Anton “Tony” Vilt, Marianne Bozzer, Gerald “Gerry” Vilt, and Donald Vilt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday June 23, 2021 at 9:30 AM at All Saints Church, Rathbun St. in Woonsocket. The family will receive guests at the church, beginning at 9:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Cumberland.
