WOONSOCKET- Ralph I. Pickering, Jr., 93, formerly of Woonsocket, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2023 at Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the beloved husband of Constance T. (Hervieux) Pickering. They had been married for 73 years. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Ralph I. and Elizabeth (McAssey) Pickering.
He is survived by his wife, Constance; three sons, David R. Pickering and his wife Gail of Lincoln, Michael A. Pickering and his wife Frances of North Chelmsford, MA, and Steven R. Pickering and his wife Michelle of Cumberland; six grandsons; one granddaughter; and eight great grandchildren.
He worked for many years in the shoe industry in Milford, MA where he rose from a laborer and shoe cutter to a foreman. Later, he was employed for many years as a custodian for the Woonsocket School Department.
He had a lifelong love of the outdoors. He enjoyed fishing in saltwater and freshwater and frequently fished with his sons and grandchildren throughout his life. He was an especially avid fly fisherman. He also enjoyed gardening and bike riding up until his 90’s.
