Penelope Mowbray Obituary

Penelope Amelia Mowbray, born on January 20, 1931, in Warwick, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 7, 2025, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. Penny was the daughter of Carl and Alice (MacIntosh) Boman and grew up alongside her older sister, Mabel (Mickey). Penny attended the University of Rhode Island before marrying Edward Andrew (Andy) Mowbray, Jr. in August 1950. They led a full life together, residing mostly in Hearthside House in Lincoln, Rhode Island, until Andy’s passing in 1996. Penny was mother to their three children, Edward Andrew Mowbray III, Sherry Mowbray, and Stuart Carl Mowbray. Penny’s boundless energy was evident in all she did. She began horseback riding lessons in her 60’s, she loved music and started guitar lessons in her 80’s, and she continued dancing (Scottish and American Country Western) into her early 90’s. Her interest in vintage cars, (mostly MGs), was developed together with her husband, and she was proud of the numerous trophies they earned. She also had a love of travel, with England and Scotland holding special places in her heart. Penny enjoyed spending her later years rowing her boat and residing where she grew up, in her beloved Wickford, Rhode Island. Penny is survived by her three children and their spouses, seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren and her longtime best friend and companion Charlie Thomas. Per Penny’s wishes, there will be no formal services.
