Michael W. Szczengor 91, of Woonsocket, went home to meet his Savior peacefully in his sleep after a long illness with his beloved wife and daughter by his side.
He was the loving husband of Constance (Therien) Szczengor, his wife and caregiver for many years. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Michael and Claudia (Perron) Szczengor. He was a communicant of the former Holy Family Church where he and Connie were married in 1959. They recently celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary. Mike was proud and honored to serve in the US Marine Corps during the Lebanon Crisis. He worked for the former Mailloux’s Furniture Store for over thirty-five years.
In the early 1950’s he was affiliated with the Holy Family Drum and Bugle Corps and the Warwick Drum and Bugle Corps and was well known for his baton twirling. He participated in the Bristol Parades and many competitions.
Mike also enjoyed baseball and played with over thirty-five leagues and formed his own team at Dunn Park. He had a gregarious personality and was always ready to lend a helping hand.
Besides his wife he leaves his daughter Deborah Gosselin of Mapleville, his grandchildren Mark and Bethany and his great-grandson Mark the apple of his eye. Mike was a loving grandfather and gave them his undivided attention. He also leaves his sister Wanda Pryharski of MA and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Constance Roberts.
His funeral will be held Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St. Woonsocket, with visitation from 10:00 – 11:00 AM followed by a funeral service in the funeral Home at 11:00 AM. Burial with Military Honors will be held in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
