Marcel V. Joyal 94, of Woonsocket, passed away Wednesday, July9, 2025 in St. Antoine Residence, North Smithfield. He was the loving husband of the late Ruth Bilow. He was born in Woonsocket, one of eleven children born to the late Orphir and Lena (Rivard) Joyal. Marcel was a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force and participated in the Berlin Airlift of 1948, providing much needed food and necessities to the people of West Berlin. He was a truck foreman for Laramee Transit for many years and would later work as a custodian for the Woonsocket School Dept retiring in 2005. He was well respected and loved by the students and was known to them as Mr. Marcel. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, played guitar, was an avid reader and Word Search enthusiast and had a great sense of humor. Marcel is survived by his children: Michael Joyal of Cumberland, Patricia Bourget and her husband Normand of Woonsocket, and Ann-Marie Simard and her husband John of North Smithfield, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was the father of the late Robert Joyal and was predeceased by all ten of his siblings. His funeral will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 9:00 from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St, Woonsocket. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 in St Joseph’s Church, Mendon Rd, Woonsocket, followed by burial with Military Honors in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.
