James E. Whiteside (“Bucko”), 68 of Pascoag, RI passed away on May 21, 2024. Son of the late Mildred (LaTour) Whiteside and Frederick Whiteside, Jr. Brother to Mary Matthews Charland and her husband Rick of Chepachet, Robert Whiteside and his wife Linda of Cumberland, Frederick III (Ted) and his wife Jennifer of North Carolina, longtime friend Annette Manigan of East Providence as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Jim’s professional career of 32 years was as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. He was employed at numerous medical settings including the former Memorial Hospital of RI and Sargent Rehabilitation Center.
He was a proud member of the RI gay community and formed many treasured friendships. He was active in the Gay Pride March in Providence as well as in Washington, DC. Jim was instrumental in the restoring of the very first RI AIDS residence. He also participated in the making of many AIDS quilts. He was honored to join others from RI in the unfolding of the first, of what would become thousands, of quilts on the promenade in Washington, DC. Jim lost many friends to AIDS.
A “Celebration of Life” visitation will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 2-4 at the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main Street, Woonsocket, RI.
