Hubert (Normand) Arsenault Obituary

Hubert Normand Arsenault, 92, of Blackstone died peacefully Wednesday April 2, 2025 at home surrounded by the love of his family. He was the loving husband of the late Aline (Belanger) Arsenault. They were married on December 30, 1950, at Holy Family Church and shared over 45 years together until her passing in 1995.

Known to everyone as Normand he was born and raised in Blackstone a son of the late Pierre Polycarp Arsenault and Exema (Dufresne) Arsenault.

Normand was very much a part of the fabric of the town of Blackstone, a community he was proud of and cared for deeply. Normand lived a total of 4 places in his life, all in the same neighborhood, within walking distance.

In his earlier years Normand worked at the General Motors plant and was involved in a service station business. Many people in the area will remember Normand as the owner and operator of Spotless Systems Cleansers on South Main Street in Woonsocket for well over 40 years until retiring in 1993.

Normand was a dedicated member for over 65 years of the Woonsocket B.P.O.E. Lodge # 850. Normand was an Elk through and through and treasured the friendship and fraternity he found in the Elk brotherhood. He was also a longtime member of Le Club Par-X. Normand was a member of St. Theresa’s Parish in East Blackstone and in recent years was a communicant of St. Blaise Parish in Bellingham.

Normand volunteered for and contributed to civic life in Blackstone in various capacities. He served as a volunteer firefighter and emergency medical technician in the early years when the town was beginning to professionalize its emergency response services. Normand ran for selectman and participated in town government. He also was instrumental in assisting the Head Start program to begin serving people in Blackstone. Together with his wife Aline, Normand had a ball while square dancing and enjoying the outdoors while camping. Normand relished time spent horseback riding especially with his good friends the late Robert and Lorraine Darling. Normand always kept active even during his retirement years. He was a genuine “Mr. Fix-it” as he could fix and repair anything and everything.

Normand will be remembered as an outgoing and friendly person. He was a true gentleman.

Normand is survived by his daughter Jeannine Castonguay and her husband Andre of Blackstone. He was the proud grandfather of Andre Castonguay, Jr., Guy Castonguay, Edward W. Castonguay, April Castonguay, and Jessica LaChance and great-grandfather of Alexis Castonguay, Hallie Castonguay, Charlotte Castonguay, Maggie Castonguay, Jerica Allison, Nancy Hackney, Brooklyn Castonguay, Olivia Castonguay, Madison Hreczuch, Mallory Hreczuch, Macy Hreczuch and the late Jacob LaChance and 8 great-great grandchildren.

He was the brother of the late Charles “Del” Arsenault, Lawrence Arsenault, Louise Trahan, Jeannette Gariepy and Mae Arsenault. Normand was the companion of Theresa Grondin of Blackstone and is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families.
