Gilbert L. “Chuck” Choquette 87, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2021. One of three children born in Woonsocket to the late Alpherie and Lillian (Valois) Choquette, he was a lifelong city resident. He was the husband of the late Rita (Allard) Choquette the love of his life, whom he married on February 23, 1957 in St. Louis Church, Woonsocket, RI. Gilbert was employed as a meat cutter at Collamati Grocery beginning in 1956 and continuing on after they were bought out by Almac’s Supermarket for a total of forty nine years. He was a very proud and dedicated worker who loved his job. He was a 1953 graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy and a 1976 Graduate of Johnson and Whales College receiving an Associate in Science Degree. Chuck served in the US Army from 1954-1956 in the 461st T Co, in Fort Story, VA as an Amphibious Vehicle Driver and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
He is survived by his children: Claire Staelen and her husband Marc of North Smithfield; Paul Choquette and his wife Carolyn, and Michael Choquette and his wife Joanne all of Woonsocket; Jackie Choquette of Millville; and David Choquette of Ct; grandchildren: Danielle Staelen and Sophie Staelen of North Smithfield, Allison Romano of Warwick, Bethany Watson of Cumberland, and Dana Choquette of TX; and seven great-grandchildren, Emma and Sadie Romano Jeremy, Olivia, and Ben Watson and Ian and Allison Choquette.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church, Park Ave., Woonsocket. A private burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations to the Friendly Home Activities Fund, 303 Rhodes Ave., Woonsocket, RI 02895 in his memory would be appreciated.
