Claire L. Lemire 89, of 7 Cobblestone St. Cumberland, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 26, 2020 at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Raymond A. Lemire. She was born in Montreal, Canada, a daughter of the late Joseph and Julienne (Pepin) Defond and was fluent in French. Claire lived in Biddeford, ME for several years and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School. She then moved to Woonsocket where she resided until she married in 1949, and then moved to Bellingham, MA. Mrs. Lemire worked in the housekeeping department of the former Woonsocket Hospital for sixteen years before retiring in 1993. She had also worked for the UniRoyal and Needle Craft Companies. She was a past member of Assumption Parish in Bellingham, and St. Theresa’s Parish in Blackstone. She was a past member of St. Joseph’s Senior Citizens, Bellingham Senior Center, and the Ladies of St. Anne at Assumption Church.
Claire is survived by her children, Gloria/the late Herman Fafard, Diane/Richard Ernst, and Roland/Sue Lemire all of Myrtle Beach, SC, Denise/Thomas Mottola of Pascoag, and Steven/Shelly Lemire of Cumberland with whom she lived for the past fifteen years, thirteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by five siblings.
