Elodia Riendeau Obituary

Cumberland

Elodia Arcelia Riendeau 100, of 10 Old Diamond Hill Rd, passed away on December 28, 2018. She was the wife of the late Joseph Riendeau. Born in Warwick, she was a daughter of the late George and Arcelia (Hurteau) Sevigny. After the early and untimely passing of her mother, she was pulled from school to become the homemaker for her large family of eight. She married shortly before WWII to Emile Joseph Riendeau and went to work in the French Worsted Mill. She was an accomplished and self-taught seamstress, and her creativity and adeptness to style brought her to Lilly Barams in Woonsocket. She loved style and was an asset to the store for her ingenuity. Later she went off to Lily Francoise and for a short time House of Brides. Elodia would also be a seamstress for Lanoie’s and Auger’s Men’s Stores also in Woonsocket.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many people. Elodia was always devoted to family, but found time to volunteer at St. Antoine, Landmark Medical Center, and the “Feed My Sheep” soup kitchen at All Saints’ Church. She was a former member of the Mercy Mount Mothers’ Club, MSC Mother’s Club, and the Purple Heart Ladies’ Auxiliary. Later in life she would become an ambassador to new residents of Brookdale in Cumberland, where she resided in the last years of her life. Her endless energy and love of people kept her young. She is survived by her son Emile Eugene Riendeau and his wife Celine of Leesburg FL, her grandsons Christopher and Eric Riendeau also of FL, and her nephews Robert Laprey, and Richard Plante. She was predeceased by her brothers: Yvon, Alfred, Benjamin, Oliva, Walter and Oscar, and her sisters Fernande, Albina, and Blanche.

Her funeral with Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, January 16, in St. Aidan’s Church, Diamond Hill Rd, Cumberland at 10:00 AM. The family will receive guests in the rear of the church at 9:30. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Military Order of the Purple Heart Service Foundation, Inc. 7008 Little River Turnpike, Annandale, VA, 22003, PO Box 49.
