Irene M. (Durand) Newlands

Irene M. (Durand) Newlands 80, formerly of Woonsocket, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, surrounded by her loving family at The Holiday Retirement Home in Manville.

She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Newlands. Irene was born in Woonsocket, the daughter of the late Raymond and Evelina Durand. She was a production manager at Donnelly Mfg and Rosecraft Mfg Co. in Woonsocket. Irene also enjoyed working at the Ballou Home as a CNA and Resident Cheer Giver. She always gave more than was asked of her. Irene raised her children at Bowdish Lake and later would help raise her grandchildren at Pascoag Lake on Melissa Lane. She could be seen playing Rummikub, Upwords, Scrabble, and was always up for a game of Pitch. Irene is survived by her children: Linda Newlands of Woonsocket, Joyce Newlands-Abysalh and her husband David Abysalh of Brooklyn CT, Christine LeMay of Brooklyn, CT and Timothy Newlands and his wife Lisa Newlands of Chepachet; four grandchildren: Kathleen Brown, James Newlands, Emily LeMay, and Melanie LeMay, and two great-grandchildren: Ethan and Evan Brown. In addition, she was the loving companion of the late Alfred Dark of Cumberland and was the sister of the late Raymond Durand. Irene was loved by all who knew her and will be sadly missed.

Her funeral will be held Saturday at10:00 am from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St, Woonsocket. Burial will follow at St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery, Bellingham. Visiting hours will be held 5-7 pm, Friday.
